Michael D. McPeck Scholarship

The Michael D. McPeck Memorial Scholarship honors the life and legacy of a devoted husband, father, coach, mentor, and proud Dutchess Community College alumnus whose impact continues to be felt throughout our community.

A lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, Michael graduated from Poughkeepsie High School before earning his degree from Dutchess Community College. He built a career with the New York State Department of Transportation in Information Technology, where he was respected for his dedication and commitment. Those who knew Michael best, however, would tell you that his greatest accomplishments were found not in his profession, but in the lives he touched.

Michael believed in investing in others. He devoted countless hours to coaching youth softball, helping young athletes build confidence, teamwork, and character both on and off the field. As President of the Mount Carmel PTA, a board member of the Town of Poughkeepsie Girls Little League Softball, and founder and coach of the Hudson Valley LadyHawks travel softball team, he inspired generations of young people through his encouragement, leadership, and unwavering support. His dedication earned him Coach of the Year honors and led his team to a District 17 Championship, but his greatest victories were measured by the confidence he instilled and the relationships he built.

Michael was equally committed to serving others. He generously gave his time to the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, honoring the memory of his mother and supporting families facing cancer. Whether volunteering, coaching, cooking for loved ones, or lending a helping hand, he approached every aspect of life with kindness, generosity, and joy.

Above all else, Michael cherished his family. His greatest pride was his wife, Rita, and their daughters, Kayleigh and Cecilia. He treasured every opportunity to spend time with them and created lasting memories through his love, laughter, and unwavering devotion.

The Michael D. McPeck Memorial Scholarship carries forward his legacy by supporting Dutchess Community College students as they pursue their education and future goals. It reflects Michael's enduring belief in the power of opportunity, hard work, community, and encouraging others to reach their fullest potential.

Through this scholarship, Michael's legacy lives on, empowering students to learn, grow, and make a positive difference in the lives of others, just as he did every day.
