THINK AHEAD Memorial Fund

The Maureen McCoy Lovullo THINK AHEAD Memorial Fund supports enrichment activities for Dutchess Community College’s THINK AHEAD program, helping individuals with intellectual disabilities develop workplace skills, build confidence, and prepare for meaningful employment. Established by Maureen’s family and friends, the fund honors her lifelong commitment to ensuring every individual had the opportunity to reach their fullest potential.

Maureen devoted her life to others. A beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, she touched countless lives with her kindness, compassion, and unwavering devotion. But it was as a special education teacher that Maureen’s impact was most deeply felt.

As a teenager, Maureen was moved to become an advocate for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities after learning about the challenges faced by students at Willowbrook. Inspired to make a difference, she dedicated more than 30 years to helping her students learn, grow, and believe in themselves.

A cherished keepsake from a John Lennon benefit concert for Willowbrook became a symbol of Maureen’s philosophy. The mirrored box reflected the person looking inside, reminding them that each of us has the power to be an agent of change. Maureen lived that belief every day, bringing compassion, patience, and opportunity to the hundreds of students she served.

In retirement, Maureen dreamed of opening a small business where her former students could gain meaningful work experience after aging out of traditional educational programs. Life had other plans. Before she could bring that dream to life, Maureen devoted herself to caring for loved ones facing illness. Soon afterward, her own health declined, and she was taken from this world far too soon.
