Without the generosity of our valued donors, many of these students would simply drop out. Lisa, whose story follows, didn't drop out, because of DCC's new housing support fund created by our generous, caring donors.Lisa had no parents in the picture at all. She struggled to cope with the financial burden and responsibilities of college life. Whe she wasn't sleeping on the floor of a friend's dorm room, she slept in her car. Then, last winter, a massive ice storm was bearing down on Dutchess County and she needed secure, warm housing, fast.A faculty member connected Lisa with DCC CARES. And thanks to one of our donors, she found temporary housing in a hotel. After the storm, she received financial aid so she could move on-campus into Conklin Hall.DCC CARES also paired her with a social worker who continues to help her with counseling, job placement and other services.We couldn't provide these life-changing resources to students in need without the help of our compassionate donors. But the need is growing. - $63 a day per student for room and board at Conklin Hall. For many students, that cost is out of reach.
